Current Skincare Favourites (Major Winter Tip, Apply Your Moisturiser TWICE!)

Soweto, South Africa
The other day I was having a chat with my sister who has oily skin and never experiences dryness
during winter and I told her that when I apply my face cream remains dry and
my sister was like who said you can
only apply a face moisturizer once (AHA) plus these days I'm applying make-up on the daily
so applying moisturizer when my face feels dry has really leveled-up my skincare game.

In the next 5 years I would like for my skin to still look like skin.
Treating your face with harsh chemicals is great but something with-in me tells me that this
trend will not end nice. Case and study (your old aunt with major hyper pigmentation but was a
yellow bone in her youth, I will say when using a new face product proceed with caution
and research research research)

TOP 5 SKINCARE PRODUCTS YOU WILL LOVE

AFRICAN EXTRACTS ROOIBOS DEEP CLEANING FACEWASH
CLASSIC CARE

Claim: This deep cleansing, delicately fragranced foaming face wash is enriched with
Bio-Active Rooibos extract. It gently cleans away make-up and surface impurities
without disturbing the skin's natural pH levels.

Thoughts: Other than than saying deep cleansing, I sometimes think that they should have said
gentle cleansing with a deep cleaning effect because that is how the product feels like
to me when I use it. One squirt has enough "soap" to cover the whole face and neck area
and I am not complaining about the price.

African Extracts Rooibos Deep cleansing Facial Wash - R61.99

ANEW VITAMIN C RADIANCE MAXIMISING SERUM

Claim: ANEW Essential Vitamin C serum delivers pure and potent stabilised Vitamin C
that stays active from the first to the last drop.
Oil-free
Potent 10% stabilised pure Vitamin C formula
Absorbs immediately
Non-greasy and non-sticky
Lightweight texture
Suitable for all types and skin tones
Clinically tested
Allergy tested
Dermatologist tested

Thoughts: The thing with the claims of this serum is that they don't say it will sting for the first
two weeks while cleaning out any imperfections, don't stress when you feel like your skin is peeling
as that is how the product works and after that your skin will look great because that
is exactly how the product performs and it has been a while since I experienced such great effects
when it comes to skincare.

retail R319 currently sells for R299 on the AVON site

NIVEA Q10 POWER MULTI-ACTION YOUTH OIL BOOSTER

Claims:  Q10 Multi-action Youth Oil Booster with 100% skin identical Q10 and organic argan oil
 Deeply nourishes and regenerates
Specially formulated for dry to very dry skin
Customizable to your needs according to your daily skin needs
Non-greasy for a wonderful skin feeling without leaving any film behind
Works in perfect harmony with your skin and naturally fights the aging process

Thoughts: NIVEA was not playing with that non-greasy part which makes the Youth Booster such a great oil because you can apply make-up with it unlike most oils which
you need to use at night because during the day they are a no no. This one is formulated
for dry to very dry skin however I think dry to normal-combination
can also get away with using this one.

DERMALOGICA SKIN SMOOTHING CREAM

Medium-weight moisturizer to balance combination/dry skin.
Claims: Deep-moisturising Lecithin and Aloe Gel nourish while extracts of Mallow, Cucumber and Arbica soothe and hydrate the skin, helping to restore suppleness and tone.
Antioxidant Grape Seed Extract plus
Vitamins C and E help shield skin from environmental assaults.

Thoughts: You can actually smell the cucumber a bit because when applied it gives
you that cooling sensation which I love even though it is winter and all.
For me it is one of the best moisturizers for dry skin I have applied
in a long time even though at times I would need to apply it twice because
my face gets really dry in winter.
Is it worth the splurge? YES!

BIODERMA ATODERM SOS SPRAY

Claims: Anti-itching reflex for immediate relief.
Soothes itching sensations in 60 seconds for 6 hours of efficacy*
Reduces the urge to scratch and provides immediate comfort
Provides an immediate sensation of freshness
Very good tolerance - Non-comedogenic - Ultra-lightweight texture - Unfragranced -
Ultra-fast 360° application in one easy step - Does not stain clothes

Limits the aggravation of skin dryness, right from birth
Strengthens and protects the skin
Very good tolerance - Extra-comfortable texture - Quick absorption - Light fragrance
Compliant with very dry to potentially atopic (eczema-prone) sensitive skin

Thoughts: I don't know what happened to my skin but 3rd week June I had the worst
breakout ever turns out it was eczema cause by the very cold weather we had this year, I also
think the stress that comes with the lockdown and extra loadshedding has also added to it because
I'm stressing but that's a topic for another day.
This spray came to the rescue at the right time (would include pictures but I'm embarrassed because
I never experienced such "bad skin" will do it later in the year though as I'm still processing).
My face felt dry and became very very very itchy like it was about to crack the Atoderm range really came through as it gave immediate relief when I say immediate relief I mean the itch subsided.

BUT only use the spray indoors
or at night because it gives off this cast as if your skin is on the extremely oily side and with me
because I had heightened eczema then the oiliness is patched in sections
(what I mean here is in certain areas would I be oily greasy and other
sections would be normal).

SHOP : HERE
BIODERMA Atoderm SOS Spray - 50ml - 200ml (R160.95 - R320.95)

So everyone has every different skin and finding out what works
for you is totally important but skincare is a journey and have
fun don't stress but be picky and gentle to your skin.

See you soon.

67 000 LITRE SOUP TARGET SMASHED BY OVER 300 CHEFS IN 10 CITIES FOR MANDELA DAY

Soweto, South Africa

In a remarkable display of the true spirit of Mandela Day, over 300 chefs stood proudly
behind their stoves, united despite the devastation of their industry,
taking collective action to put their heart where their passion lies – feeding people – and sending a clear and unequivocal message of the indomitable spirit of the chef.
The result… the target of 67 000 litres of soup was exceeded, and instead, 77 455 litres was cooked,
serving 309 820 cups of soup to hungry people all over the country.

In 10 cities - Johannesburg, Cape Town, Pretoria, Durban, Bloemfontein, Mokopane, Rustenburg, Vereeniging, Port Elizabeth and Nelspruit
- a hearty, nutritious soup was cooked with compassion and care by chefs from restaurants, hotels, cooking schools and catering operations.
The initiative was made possible by a collaboration between two not-for-profit organisations founded in a philosophy of rescuing surplus food to nourish those in need –
Chefs with Compassion and SA Harvest.
“The success of this initiative comes down to collaboration, and we welcome all opportunities to work together with other rescue organisations,” comments Ozzy Nel, Operations Manager of SA Harvest.
“Through the collective involvement of two rescue organisations, over 300 chefs in 10 cities, at least 20 partners and sponsors, and over 80 beneficiary organisations,
the seemingly impossible target was reached.”

Commenting on the participation of chefs in 10 cities, whose labour resulted in delicious, nutritious soup being served around the country,
Chef Coo Pillay, National Project Manager of Chefs with Compassion, says,
“There is no doubt that the competitive spirit of the chef came into play, as the ‘big four’ cities fought to not only exceed their target, but also to beat the other cities in the count of litres cooked and, most importantly, lives impacted.”

The participant producing the largest volume of soup from one kitchen was the
Primi kitchen at Primi World, captained by Chef Bob Knuckey and co-ordinated by Ozzy Nel
The extensive logistics involved in collecting soup from 16 kitchens before sunrise on Saturday morning to deliver it to 23 beneficiary organisations in 29 locations by sunset was capably executed by Cape Town operations manager Manu Wegmershaus and assisted by Meridian Wines, who stepped in to assist with vans and drivers.
Overall, it was Johannesburg who won bragging rights for their incredible volume of 22 092 litres prepared by 36 kitchens, followed by Cape Town with 18 850 litres cooked by 16 kitchens, Pretoria with 14 838 litres prepared by 17 kitchens, and Durban with 11 285 litres cooked by 17 kitchens. The city with the highest average was Rustenburg, with 4 200 litres from one kitchen.

The quality of the soup served around the country was evident in thousands of pictures shared on social media, with nutritious sugar beans delivering plant-based protein, and mountains of vegetables, collectively requiring hundreds of hours of cleaning and preparation, making up the bulk of the soup. “It was clear that the chefs took great pride in preparing meals that they could be proud of,”
says Chef Coo.

Gratitude from beneficiaries flooded social media on Saturday afternoon, from far and wide across the country, as over 300 000 people received their meals.
In Joburg, 2 000 cups of soup were delivered from the Lerato Educational Centre in Jackson Park informal settlement, a SA Harvest-supported Rhema South beneficiary. Scott Headrick from Rhema South Family Church, which feeds between 400 to 800 children daily, commented, “Hearing the news that we were going to get between 2 000 and 2 500 soups to feed the Jackson community, we decided we wanted to bless the adults.
We’ve been planted in this community, which is home to upwards of 6 000 adults, for 10 years. On Saturday, we gave between 800 and 1 000 children ice creams in the morning and asked them to call their parents to receive a cup of soup when it arrived in the afternoon.”

Wheels on the Bus & Other Toddler Things On Repeat Every Minute Everyday

Soweto, South Africa

The other day I was browsing Facebook like most of us do almost every
hour and I came across a post of a parent complaining about
Masha and the Bear and I just laughed because
I'm currently dealing with the same situation.

WHEELS ON THE BUS is on repeat and requested
by Asanda my daughter every time when she is bored or when
holding my phone.
The problem here is ME, one night she was crying refusing to sleep
and I decided to play the song and I must say
the biggest mistake for 2020 as now it is on repeat daily.

She would come to me asking to watch and listen  to amapopayi (cartoons) and I would open
the cartoon channel and NO NO NO not those cartoons
the cartoons on my phone, so parents we just have to ride this wave and
p.s. I'm glad I'm not alone on this one.

NEW IN | #CetaphilMaskne (HEY WHAT IS MASKNE?!)

Well Cetaphil has an answer for us,
“Maskne”, the latest and not-so-luxurious term to enter
the world of COVID-19. As the name suggests, Maskne, is acne that results from wearing a face mask
or dermatologically known as acne mechanica.
This type of acne is commonly triggered by sweat, friction,
and pressure on the skin and causes inflammation, unpleasant red rashes and tiny clusters of
pimples around the nose and mouth specifically.

Cetaphil®, a leader in gentle skincare products, shares some tips to help take care of your skin while wearing a mask.

1. Choose a soft and breathable mask

Cloth face masks can now be easily purchased from a variety of places online or home-made.
It is recommended to use a mask with three layers, selecting a non-woven (or similar) fabric with strong filtering capability as the middle layer, and the accompanying inner and outer layers for comfort, structure and some additional protection.

It is recommended to wash re-usable masks regularly as they are prone to collect dirt, oils, bacteria, and germs, which may exacerbate skin problems. It should also be noted that the Department of Health has discouraged the public from using the N-95 masks, as these have been reserved for healthcare workers and other medical first responders.

2. Include a gentle skin cleanser into your skin care routine

Select a skin cleanser like the Cetaphil ® Gentle Skin Cleanser, a mild, non-irritating, non-drying gentle skin cleanser for even the most sensitive skin. This cleanser can be used without water. So, if you have irritated or sensitive skin, gently swipe a cotton round with the cleanser over your skin.

3. Create a skin care barrier by using a moisturiser

After your daily morning exercise and post cleansing, apply a moisturiser like the Cetaphil® Daily Hydrating Lotion. This lightweight, oil-free moisturiser with Hyaluronic Acid provides instant hydration, maintaining the skins protective barrier, and helps to protect skin from dryness.

4. Don’t forget your Sun Protection Factor, even in the colder months

Although half of our face is covered by our face masks, it is still important to apply an SPF on a daily basis, as some of the skin is exposed to the harmful sun rays when going for morning walks. Opt for a non-comedogenic and oil-free option as they work to decrease excess oil that can clog pores
and lead to acne.

5. Keep in contact with your dermatologist

If you are concerned about the health of your skin or keep experiencing skin breakouts,
keep in contact with your dermatologist.
Some dermatologists are offering a Telehealth solution, which is the distribution of health-related services and information via electronic information and telecommunication technologies.
